Megumi & Friends @ Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture - Library

Border-crossing violinist, Megumi Saruhashi presents Megumi & Friends, an evening of her original compositions at Brooklyn Ethical Culture on Friday May 25th from 8pm. Joining her are Brian Prunka on oud, George Crotty on cello, Zach Lapidus on piano, Dan Kurfirst on percussion. 
Megumi & Friends is where Megumi shares her compositions in her tireless search for finding unity within diversity in people and music. 
Megumi & Friends is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council.
Megumi is awarded a Brooklyn Arts funds from Brooklyn Arts Council in 2018 for Megumi & Friends where she shares her compositions in Brooklyn, in her tireless search for finding unity within diversity.

Sunday Morning Yoga at BSEC

Start your Sunday morning by connecting with your body and breath. Class will open with a short meditation followed by gentle guided movement through basic yoga asanas.
FEE FOR PARTICIPANTS:
BSEC Members: FREE
Non-Members: Sliding Scale $10-$20

Please bring a yoga mat and any props you like to use. Some yoga experience is recommended but not required.
Classes will take place at our library.

THE TEACHER:

Lea Bender is a certified Yoga instructor bringing over twenty years of yoga and meditation training and practice along with and a background in circus, physical theater, and Pilates to her teaching. She teaches a range of different styles from Vinyasa to Restorative, but at the root of every class is the intention to help students tap into the profound nature of our human experience through connection to body and breath. Lea received her 200-hour RYT certification at Jaya Yoga Center, where she is currently teaching. Lea also teaches for Six Petals Retreats with an annual March retreat in the Costa Rican rainforest. Lea is the former Education Director for Ethics for Children (EfC) at BSEC and currently teaches Living Ethics for EfC on Sunday mornings after yoga.

Gentle Yoga at BSEC

Our in-house yoga instructor Lea Bender leads this new offering at BSEC geared towards older populations and/or those just starting or returning to a movement practice. Each class will open with a mindful meditation practice followed by gentle, guided movement intended to increase ease in breath and mobility and to keep joints, bones and muscles in optimal health. Physical limitations will be carefully considered with modifications so that everyone will be able to participate. Experience a sense of freedom in the body at any age and learn to work through your daily physical challenges in a relaxed and supportive setting.

WHEN / WHERE:
Every third Sunday 10-10:50 am in the BSEC Library
COST:
Free to BSEC members, open to all (sliding scale $10-$15 for non-members).
Mats will be provided. Please your own small blanket for added comfort.
