Building Circles of Trust
Feb 17 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

What is the balance in your life of skepticism and trust? What or who have you trusted all your life? What or who have you lost faith in? Have you ever felt broken-hearted when someone you trusted (a person or institution) failed to live up to your expectations, broke your trust?  Have you ever broken the trust of another, and tried to figure out how to repair that?  Have you ever felt betrayed by institutions that are supposed to protect you?  By “microaggressions” from someone who you think of as a friend or ally?  Is it hard to trust yourself? Your partner? Your children?

It is mutual trust, even more than mutual interest that holds human associations together. – H.L. Mencken

Can a group of skeptics build a community based on trust?  That is the challenge of an Ethical Society, and the challenge that we all face in our personal lives.  Our Clergy Leader, Jone Johnson Lewis, will reflect on the pragmatic ways that we can build circles of trust in our lives.

Our Ethics Matters theme for February is Trust: the practice of being reliable and relying on ourselves and others.
