Job Title: Creative Youth Educator / Teaching Artist – Ethics for Children Program

Position Type: Part-Time / Sunday Mornings (Academic Year)
Compensation: $9000 a year ( Approximately $100 – $120 an hour). Salary includes 30 Sunday classes (classes run from 10:30 am to 12 pm; teachers are expected on site for about 2 hours) from Sept 2026 to June 2027 (excludes most school holidays). 12 meetings per year (after class or at other times on Zoom) and 1 extra day helping at one of our “All Ages” events.
Family Benefit: Full tuition scholarship for educators’ children (ages 5–16) to attend the Ethics for Children program.

Job Description:
Brooklyn Ethical seeks part-‐time experienced, progressive educators to teach our Ethics for Children 2026-‐2027 program for ages 5-8, 9-12, and 12-‐16 (Coming of Age Class).
Several classes will include service projects, featured guests, and field trips, which will be done together as a single group.
The Ethics for Children (EfC) program at the Brooklyn Ethical is an interactive, joyful learning environment where kids (ages 5–16) explore what it means to live thoughtfully and empathetically in their communities, and to broaden their experiences, focusing on building a more just world, honoring and protecting the inherent dignity and worth of every person and the need to nurture communities and our environment. Rather than teaching dogma or rigid rules, our program uses art, theater, music, storytelling, games, and hands-on service projects to help children explore five core areas: Caring for Self, Family, Community, Society, and the Earth.
Responsibilities:
– Be on site for about 2 hours on Sunday mornings to facilitate engaging 90-minute Sunday morning sessions utilizing experiential methods (creative arts, group discussion, games, and reflection), or guide and care for students during off-site service projects and field trips.
– Attend approximately 12 meetings a year and help facilitate one of our “All Ages” events a year.
– Create an inclusive, welcoming classroom culture where all children feel safe sharing ideas and questions.
– Support hands-on service-learning projects (e.g., food drives, community fridge support, animal shelter projects, environmental cleanups).
– Collaborate with the program director and fellow educators on seasonal themes and lesson ideas.
– Maintain clear, positive communication with students, parents, and community members.
Additional responsibilities will include:
• Providing a brief 3–4 sentence weekly class recap for parent outreach, right after the class ends.
• A basic fall and spring syllabus (with assistance from the Ethical Education Committee and the kids themselves), as well as preparing weekly lesson plans
Who You Are:
– Experienced with Youth: ~3+ years of experience teaching children or teens (in classrooms, after-school programs, arts organizations, or community groups).
– Engaging & Creative: You know how to capture kids’ attention through interactive activities, storytelling, movement, or art.

– Reliable: You are dependable and committed to Sunday morning schedules throughout the school calendar.
Note: A formal teaching license, education degree, or academic background in ethics is encouraged but not required. We value warmth, experience in curriculum development, classroom presence, teaching experience with a variety of communities, and creativity above specific credentials!
