Ethics in Action – Collection for Women’s Shelter

At a time when so many people in our communities are struggling, sometimes it seems overwhelming to try to look for solutions, but even small acts can make a difference. As part of the Secular Week of Action, we had a toiletries collection to help support the CAMBA Park Slope Women’s Shelter, which is a​ 100-bed shelter at the Park Slope Armory in Brooklyn. The supportive, structured, and therapeutic facility provides temporary housing, nutritious meals, and comprehensive services and assistance for mentally ill, substance-abusing women.
BSEC members, friends, families from the Park Slope Playgroup, and people in the community came to support the collection and brought over 500 items to donate to the community.
Thank you all who came, who contributed, and who helped us sort the items and bring them to the shelter. The best of ethics is ethics in action!

In support of the victims of the Sunset Park Shooting

The Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture would like to express our concern and support for the victims of the horrific subway shooting in Sunset Park. Our thoughts go out to the victims, their families and friends.

Announcing our new Managing Director

We would like to welcome Erin Carney as the new Managing Director of the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture. The Recruitment Taskforce conducted an exhaustive campaign and had the pleasure of interviewing several impressive candidates; however, none matched as many of our long list of desired attributes as Erin. She was most recently the founder and chief operating officer of the Brooklyn Creative League, a shared office space serving over 200 members — independent professionals, non-profits, and small-shop creative companies. As a small business owner, Erin was responsible for everything from budgeting to members’ services. Prior to that, she had a distinguished career in the non-profit sector. Erin has a solid background in fiscal management, operations, program development, and implementation, staff management, strategic planning, relationship building, and fundraising. Please join us virtually at the April 17th colloquy, “Rebirth” for an introduction to Erin and on May 16 th , in-person, for a luncheon and celebration after the “All-Society Platform.”

All items will be delivered to Meest at their NJ center and then onto Lviv, Ukraine through Poland. Items will be distributed via Meest’s non profit organization in Lviv.
