From flute to ecole fula flute

with Sylvain Leroux.

Notable Jazz musician, Sylvain Leroux, shares his journey into African music and the Fula flute leading to the establishment of an alternative music school in Conakry.

Montreal-born Sylvain Leroux is a notable player and maker of the Fula flute who brought the traditional instrument into chromatic functionality with his invention of the “qromatica”, which, in turn, led him to initiate “l’école fula flute”, a project that contributed to foster a revival of the instrument in Guinea by raising a new generation of young players.
